The History
In 1988, when Domaine de la Romanée Conti offered parcels in Vosne Romanée for sale, the late Henry Frédéric Roch, then co-director of DRC, purchased them himself, marking the birth of Domaine Prieuré Roch.
Inspired by his grandfather Henri Leroy, legendary founder of Maison Leroy, Roch dedicated himself to crafting the purest expressions of Pinot Noir from Burgundy's finest terroirs. His avant-garde philosophy of minimal intervention is a testament to the respect for nature, preserving the unadulterated voice of the vines.
The Philosophy & Logo
The distinctive emblem of Domaine Prieuré Roch is rich with symbolism, reflecting a deep connection to humanity, nature, and the lifecycle of the vine. The logo features three red dots representing humans, the grower, the taster, and the earth, two yellow ovals symbolizing the grapes and the clusters growing on the vine, and a teal vertical shape portraying the vine leaf or shoot pointing upward toward the sky. It is a visual manifesto of organic harmony, reminding us that wine is a living creation born from the intimate collaboration between man and nature.
At the domaine, viticulture is strictly organic, working exclusively with old vines, 30 to 100 years old. Harvests occur as late as possible in multiple passes to ensure perfect ripeness and grape health. The cellar follows natural principles, whole bunch fermentation, foot treading, no fining or filtration, and minimal sulphur. The results are wines of extraordinary aromatic complexity and energy, with vibrant acidity and layered fruit, delicious young but built for decades of ageing. Stylistically unique and of outstanding quality, they are true to their exceptional terroirs.
A rare distinction in Burgundy, the domaine owns three prestigious monopoles, Clos des Corvées, 5ha Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru, Clos des Varoilles, 6ha Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru, and the jewel like Clos Goillotte, 0.55ha Vosne Romanée, once the private vineyard of the Prince de Conti.
With each vintage, Domaine Prieuré Roch strengthens its reputation as Burgundy's most authentic voice, ever evolving with nature's rhythm. Today, winemaker Antonio Quari, trained under Roch and Yannick Champ, continues elevating quality while respecting the domaine's philosophy.

The Terroirs & Monopoles
Clos Goillotte Monopole, Vosne Romanée: The jewel of the Domaine. Sitting beside La Tâche, this vineyard once belonged to the Prince of Conti. Reserved for family consumption for centuries, it is a Grand Cru in all but name, yielding wines of cult status and immense aging potential.
Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Grand Cru: Founded in the 12th century, the Domaine,s 1.01 hectare plot sits at the heart of the Clos. With 85 year old vines, it produces some of the most profound and structured Pinot Noir in the world.
Clos des Corvées Monopole, Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru: Exclusively owned by the Domaine, this 5.21 hectare monopole is the source of their most powerful Nuits Saint Georges expressions, specifically the rare Tête de Cuvée from millerandage grapes.
Clos des Argillières, Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru: Sitting in the heart of the slope in Prémeaux Prissey, this premier cru plot on clay limestone soils delivers a wine that oozes richness and warmth. With tannins so smooth they feel almost creamy, it captures the sensuality and deep earthiness characteristic of classic Nuits Saint Georges.
Clos de Vougeot, Grand Cru: Situated in the Terroir Royal, the Domaine's plot features vines dating back to 1929. The gravelly soil creates a filtered, elegant expression of this historic site.
Clos des Varoilles Monopole, Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru: A recent 2020 acquisition, this site is protected by the Combe Lavaux. It provides a unique microclimate that ensures freshness and tension, even in warmer years.
Les Suchots, Vosne Romanée 1er Cru: The 50 year old vines here sit on the gentle mid slope of Vosne. Known for its souches, roots, this site delivers the classic aromatic complexity and energy the Domaine is famous for.
Hautes Maizières, Vosne Romanée: Located directly below the renowned 1er Cru Les Suchots on the gentle lower slopes, this parcel displays the classic beauty of Vosne Romanée. It is bestowed with an arousing finesse and vibrant aromatic energy, embodying the truly sublime and silky character of the appellation.
Dessus les Gollardes, Savigny lès Beaune: Positioned at the upper edge of the slope bordering the forest, this unique plot yields Pinot Noir with a distinct Côte de Nuits power and tension, despite being located south of Ladoix. The wine is generous, greedy, and intensely aromatic, bridging the gap between two great sub regions.
Le Cloud, Ladoix: Named after its elevated site overlooking Ladoix Serrigny, this terroir produces both a voluptuous, fruit driven red that rejoices in its youth and a delicately minerally, vibrant Chardonnay, each showcasing the pure, minimal intervention signature of Domaine Prieuré Roch.
Vintage Guide
A cool growing season with delayed ripening and exceptionally small yields produced. The wines are classically styled, with delicate red fruit, pronounced freshness, fine tannins and an elegant, structured character.
The growing season began with an excellent start in the spring, however this was shortly interrupted by hail in June and a wet, damp July. Good weather in September rescued the harvest, ensuring good ripeness. Consequently, the wines of 2014 offer exceptional colour, purity, beautifully measured tannins and outstanding balance.
A warm, dry growing season produced beautifully ripe, concentrated fruit. The wines of the 2015 vintage at Prieure Roch are rich and generous, combining dark berries, supple tannins and considerable depth with impressive ageing potential.
Spring frost was narrowly avoided at the beginning of 2017, in turn, it was followed by exceptionally healthy growing conditions and five periods of intense heat. It was this precise weather pattern that added soft tannins and vibrant colour to the wines. 2017 is a year of remarkable purity and approachability.
2018 was a year of significantly small yields. Intense summer heat, droughts and two hailstorms reduced the volume of fruit harvested. Despite elevated alcohol levels, the wines retains surprising freshness and acidity, alongside generous fruit and impressive richness.
A particularly dry season produced exceptionally small berries and approximately 30% less juice than usual. The domaine reported outstanding fruit quality, remarkable concentration and lower alcohol levels than 2018, resulting in wines of impressive intensity and balance.
An early harvest, despite this being a hot and dry season, the wines produced in 2020 are remarkable. The domaine describe 2020 of having superb fruit quality, with moderate alcohol levels compared with 2018, delivering expressive, fruit driven wines with freshness and beautiful drinkability.
A hot, drought affected season required careful sorting and hand harvesting of fruit. Prieure Roch praise the concentration and quality of their grapes grown in 2022, particularly in Clos des Corvées, producing powerful, deeply flavoured wines with considerable poise.
A mild, frost free spring encouraged unusually generous yields, while variable conditions demanded careful vineyard management. The domaine reported beautifully balanced, fruit forward wines with moderate alcohol, vibrant freshness and excellent purity.
