Champagne Eric Rodez
THE CUVÉES

The Blanc de Noirs is the Rodez signature cuvée and love letter to Ambonnay. When you taste a bottle you will understand why Eric’s champagnes are in demand by sommeliers the world over. With layer upon layer of ripe fruit and pastry complexity, it makes us think of millefeuilles. Real champagne, real indulgence.

The Art of Blending
AUTHOR’S WINES

For the cuvées following this logic, we wish each year to rewrite a musical composition, playing the familiar notes of previous bottling’s. This is the logic of the Champenoise tradition with the blending of all possible influences offered to us in the wine cellar with our wines of that year but also with our library reserve wines.

NV BLANC DE NOIRS, BRUT
AMBONNAY GRAND CRU
100% Pinot Noir
Brut champagne from a terroir that express power and length. Just 20% of the final blend undergoes malolactic fermentation. This Blanc de Noirs is made from 5 to 6 vintages, with 90% vinified in small barrels. This champagne has a sustained gold colour. The powerful nose is marked by red fruits with hints of dried fruit and candied fruit. The palate is powerful and muscular all in balance with freshness.

NV ROSÉ
GRAND CRU, AMBONNAY
75% Pinot Noir | 25% Chardonnay
Champagne with heart, the NV Rosé is full of generosity, combining power, great vinosity and finesse. Fruit from blending of macerated wines provides fullness, and 25% Chardonnay for elegance and freshness. The cuvée is assembled from 50-55% of reserve wines, with just 10% undergoing malolactic fermentation. 85% of the wine is matured in small barrels. A beautiful colour marked by the maceration of Pinot Noir. The nose is complex, powerful, long, marked by “red berries”. The palate is smooth, powerful, with hints of subtle oak.

NV CUVÉE DES GRANDS VINTAGES
AMBONNAY GRAND CRU
70% Pinot Noir | 30% Chardonnay
Our top blended wine, this cuvée is a blend of the first presses from the best vintages from grand cru sites. It does not undergo malolactic fermentation and is vinified entirely in small oak barrels to reach greater complexity. Clear golden colour with yellow highlights. Long nose, complex, expressed with notes of ripe pear and quince with hints of warm brioche. Vinous palate, ample, broad but fresh, conspicuous by its balance. Beautiful golden colour, with copper highlights. The nose delivers aromas of quince blossom and orange marmalade. The Champagne evolves in the glass with elegance, quality that reveals a long palate, powerful and very aromatic.

The Soloists
SINGLE VINEYARDS

The only truth of origin, no blending, one plot, one grape variety, one vintage. The naked truth of working in the vineyard with rooted in its terroir.

2015 LIEU-DIT LES GENETTES PINOT NOIR

One Vintage, One Grape Variety, and Ambonnay
TERROIR SELECTION

We wish to extend the fruit of our hands to you from the Ambonnay terroir. All cuvées are vintage and the blending is limited to 5, 6 or 7 different plots of the same grape variety.

2010 EMPREINTE BLANCHE CHARDONNAY
100% Chardonnay
Always vintage, this Champagne wine is the result of a blend of 5 to 7 parcels of our domain. Empreinte expresses our vision of the vintage in Ambonnay. The expression of our hands on a terroir. The fruit of our vision in the sensory restitution of a vintage mono grape. Vinification in small oak barrels, no malolactic fermentation, no industrial cold passage, no filtration but the desire to preserve Ambonnay’s vibrations.

“Respect for our vines is a daily preoccupation and we look to explore all techniques and routes which allow for a greater respect for our vineyards and favour a natural balance. There is no point in doping our vines, it is useless to try and replace Mother Nature; often it is enough to simply use common sense. Quality, the level of expression, the melody played by our wines of Champagne but also the level of pleasure and joy experienced by your taste buds depends on it.”

Family History
CHAMPAGNE ERIC RODEZ
9TH GENERATION

Eric Rodez is undoubtedly one of the founding fathers of the ‘récoltant-manipulants’ movement. Former Mayor of Ambonnay, Eric learned his art at the famed house of Krug, where for many years held the Head of Oenology position. Prior to that he cut his teeth winemaking in Burgundy rather than Champagne, which he said taught him the value of quality over quantity. Rodez also has enriched his winemaking experience in various wine regions including Alsace where he mastered organic vineyard practices. Eric Rodez, who started with the mediocre 1984 vintage, is the eighth generation of the family domaine in Ambonnay. Upon returning to his family domaine, Rodez embarked in a journey of discovery, delving deep into the patchwork of vineyards from this magical slice of Champagne. Since the early days, his unique sensibility, and expert hand, delivered outstanding, terroir-driven Champagnes of sublime structure and beguiling precision. Today, Eric Rodez is king amongst growers, and his finest bottlings are some of the most impressive Champagne you will ever taste. The definition of flavours, restrained power and impressive ageability of his cuvees can give any top bottling from larger Maisons a run for their money.

Family History
THE NEXT GENERATION

Since the 2014 harvest, with son Mickael by his side, generation number nine is established. Eric’s family has been growing grapes in Ambonnay for nine generations and today he is widely considered to be one of the superstars of the current Champagne generation. He is a firm believer in biodynamic viticulture, shown by the shining health of his vineyards, and an utter obsessive about his Ambonnay terroir. Eric and Mickael have reorganized the range of the domaine, which farms six hectares of vines exclusively in Ambonnay and according to biodynamic principles (Demeter certified).
