We met Yann Durieux one night in May 2012 at an event at Domaine Prieuré-Roch. At first glance, this young, dreadlocked Burgundian was not the usual winemaker. But when he started talking, one could see his passion for perfection. Yann was working closely with Yannick Champ at Domaine Prieuré-Roch for the last decade but is now producing his own wines to his own, very unique tune. Durieux holds 3 hectares of vineyards around Villers-La-Faye, comprising Pinot Noir, Aligoté, and Chardonnay. He also purchases a small amount of Pinot Noir, all of which is certified organic. Yann is no ordinary wine producer. He is first and foremost a man who looks after nature and searches for ways to develop viticulture in balance with the eco-system. His vision is simply to make beautiful wines, and in doing so he is happy to leave convention behind him. He works the vines to the highest standards of quality - no chemicals, ultra low yields, and an unerring respect for the natural process of wine-making. The name of his first wine, like Yann himself, defied Burgundian conventions."Love and PIF" - a take on the phrase Love and Peace, (PIF being French slang for wine) truly showcases the stunning potential of a hugely underrated grape.
