Based in south west Germany, Dr. Wehrheim has been making high-quality wine since 1920. Located in the town of Birkweiler, in the Südliche Weinstraße district, in Palatinate, this family owned winery has been making wine for four generations. Karl-Heinz Wehrheim is at the helm working with his son Franz while Dr. Heinz Wehrheim Senior is now helping out with the books. The estate is combined of 42 acres with three important vineyards - Kastanienbusch, Mandelberg, and Rosenberg - each with a distinct terroir. Kastanienbusch's soil is a combination of red sandstone, limestone, and red slate while Mandelberg and Rosenberg's are respectively lacustrine, limestone, and keuper. The Wehrheim family produces Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir. They have been engaged in bio-dynamic farming since 2007 and in 2010, the winery was certified organic. In recent news, their Pinot Blanc was voted "Best White Pinot in Germany" for the fifth time by the Gault Millau 2015, after 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2012.
