Isabelle Sabon, a graduate oenologist and part of a long line of winegrowers, has been at the helm of Domaine de la Janasse alongside her brother Christophe for over two decades.
Under them, the family estate has blossomed into a gem of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. In 2014, Isabelle took a bold step to establish her own winery, aiming to carve out a new chapter in the family legacy. She acquired an 18th-century Provençal farmhouse set amidst 15 hectares of vines, nestled north of Jonquières, the name “St Antonin” was a fitting choice, as the estate is situated on a site with a Napoleonic-era building bearing the same inscription.
Here, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Clairette, Bourboulenc, and Chardonnay thrive on a stony terroir, shielded from erosion and oriented north-south, resting on marl. These unique terroirs enable Isabelle to express her distinct vision of winemaking. St Antonin has been a silent observer of the Vaucluse landscape for centuries. Perched at the highest point of the Plan de Dieu appellation, this natural promontory offers stunning views of the Dentelles de Montmirail, Mont Ventoux, and the Rhône Valley plain.
Since acquiring the estate, Isabelle has meticulously reworked and redesigned the vineyard, adhering to the same values that guide the family estate of La Janasse; respect for the land and environment, diligent vineyard management, tailored vinification and ageing processes.
On the sandy soils of La Crau Est and La Font du Loup, two plots within the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation have been selected. Previously utilised by Domaine de la Janasse, these plots now contribute to the production of the St Antonin cuvée, crafted entirely from Grenache Noir, the appellation’s flagship grape
