Wine Source harvest trip to Vignobles Silvio Denz

Wine Source UK On Trade Sales Director Claire Thevenot took a group of top London sommeliers on a fabulous trip to Vignobles Silvio Denz during the harvest of the 2016 vintage.

Sommeliers from The Fat Duck, Marcus Wareing at the Berkley, Park Chinois, Fera at Claridge’s, and Bottle Apostle - to name just a few - visited the fabulous estates of Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes and Chateau Faugères, St Emilion Grand Cru Classé for a tour of the vineyards and the cellars, finishing with a tasting of the wines. 

The group was put to work with secateurs to harvest Chateau Peby Faugères, St Emilion Grand Cru Classé; they also toiled hard at Chateau Faugères to tread the grapes. Their efforts were rewarded with a delicious “harvesters’” lunch.

The grand highlight of the trip came on the last day: the group attended a grape tasting session with world famous wine consultant Michel Rolland, where they learned to check the maturity of the berries for the next stage of harvest.

Wine Source would like to say a special thank you to Silvio Denz for leading the trip, and allowing us access to all the winemaking processes during the busiest time of the year, and to David Bolzan, his General Manager who arranged the program for us. It was a stunning two days.
