The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon from Jordan winery is a classic wine from Sonoma county.
The 1999 marked the first vintage where the wine was blending grapes from the hills of Sonoma with the Mendocino valley. It has all the highlights of a classic Californian Cabernet Sauvignon, blackcurrant notes, a light touch of oak, a smooth vanilla but not overwhelming finish. The wine did a lot of justice to the winemaker in what was an average year in the Region.
It seems that Jordan winery was using mostly french oak in that vintage which probably explains the lighter touch vs. other wines made in Sonoma. Jordan 1999 is clearly not a monster of complexity but it has now reached its maturity and the wine has become a very enjoyable companion to any grilled meat or even a poularde de bresse in a creamy white sauce.
Worth having a few bottles in your cellar if you are looking for a good value American cabernet.
