Batard Montrachet Jean Noel Gagnard 2005

We tried the Batard Montrachet from Jean Noel Gagnard in the 2005 vintage, a vintner with a good name in a great vintage on one of the most prestigious parcels of Burgundy...

The bottle when opened revealed a note of oxidation but after putting it in a white wine decanter on ice, after half an hour the oxidation started to fade to be replaced by a creamy well balanced wine.

If you have some in your cellar, open it for people chasing labels and looking for bold whites which would supplement well a creamy chicken or fish stew, or even some desserts...

Our feeling is that if well stored the 2005 vintage could probably improve substantially by waiting another 3-5 years, where the richness may be replaced by more minerality as the wine develops further.
